Food and recovery for training in Thailand

What to eat around two sessions a day, where to find protein, and how to recover between them.

Food near most camps is cheap, fresh, and close by. Local shops and markets sit within a short walk of the training areas, so eating well between sessions is easy and inexpensive.

Eating for two sessions a day

Training twice a day burns a lot. Most people eat a light meal before morning training, a bigger meal after, and a solid dinner. Rice, grilled chicken or pork, eggs, fish, and vegetables are everywhere. Thai portions are smaller than Western ones, so order more if you need it.

  • Protein: grilled chicken, pork, fish, eggs, tofu, and Thai dishes built around them
  • Carbs: rice and noodles to refuel after sessions
  • Fruit and fresh juice for vitamins and hydration
  • Local shop meals are often cheaper than tourist restaurants

Hydration and heat

The heat matters as much as the training. Drink through the day, add electrolytes when you sweat hard, and do not wait until you feel thirsty. Coconut water is common and helps.

Recovery

  • Sleep is the biggest recovery tool on a two-a-day schedule
  • Thai massage is widely available and affordable for sore legs
  • Stretch after sessions and ice shins if they bruise
  • Take the rest day the camp gives you
Questions

Common questions

Can I eat enough protein in Thailand?
Yes. Grilled meats, eggs, fish, and tofu are on nearly every menu. If you want more, order extra protein or visit a shop that portions by weight.
Is the food good for a training diet?
It can be. Choose grilled over fried, add vegetables, and refuel with rice after sessions. Many camps can point you to shops that cook simple, high-protein meals.
