Things to do on your rest days

Training runs six days a week, so most people have one rest day and free afternoons. Here is what to do around the camps.

In short

Around the camps you can reach beaches and islands, temples and markets, and stadium fights, or simply eat well and get a massage. Phuket leans beaches and islands; Chiang Mai leans temples, markets, and mountains.

Phuket and the islands

  • Quieter beaches like Nai Harn and Kata for a rest day
  • Day trips by boat to nearby islands and snorkeling spots
  • The Big Buddha and Phuket Old Town for a slower afternoon

Chiang Mai and the north

  • Old City temples and the Sunday walking market
  • Doi Suthep for the view over the city
  • Waterfalls and countryside a short ride from the camps

Watch Muay Thai live

Seeing a fight is part of the trip. Bangkok has the big stadiums, Rajadamnern and Lumpinee, and most training areas have local shows. Check the current schedule and tickets before you go.

Recovery counts as an activity

A rest day is for recovery. Thai massage is cheap and everywhere, and many camps have ice baths. A slow morning at a cafe does more for your training than another hard session.
