The area

What Khao Lak is like

Khao Lak is a quiet coastal area roughly 90 minutes north of Phuket by road. Rawai Muay Thai, the area's established camp, sits in Khuk Kak village with 40 on-site rooms and a pool, making it self-contained enough for a full training block without needing to leave the site.

The area is far less developed than Phuket, which suits travelers who want minimal distractions and a calm base. The JW Marriott is the area's headline resort for those who want luxury nearby, and several boutique resorts have opened along the beach.
